The Ground Floor

During your visit to the Hall you will be able to view one of the oldest parts of the present manor house, the Great Hall.

The Great Hall
One of the oldest features of this room is the early oak door, constructed in the same way as the house; from pieces of oak held together with wooden pegs.  It has a small wicket gate door in the centre, which was the only means of entry after dark, as the large door was bolted shut.   Today this room is also used for civil weddings and civil partnership ceremonies.

The Lesser Hall
Constructed sometime during the late 15th or early 16th century links the two wings of the building together which houses the Chapel and the Banqueting Room located upstairs (please note: closed on special event days and for weddings)

The Chapel
The first reference to the Chapel was in 1541, with the first marriage recorded in 1599.  Weddings no longer take place in the Chapel today as the Hall is licensed for Civil Wedding Ceremonies. The most notable feature of the Chapel is the wall paintings on the upper part of the west wall.

Victorian Kitchen
The Victorian Kitchen, buttery and pantry are located at the Northern end of the Hall and give a flavour of how life would have been.
